Take your best shot at being Frank!
At ArtUp Lille 2016, I set up a special booth for the opening evening. This booth was supposed to show people that everyone can be a critic as well as being an artist. It isn’t always necessary to know everything about art in order to appreciate it, and more importantly, to express what you think or feel. Therefor, I gave people a shot at participating in one of life’s most beautiful things, taking away the idea that art is set away exclusively for the rich and educated.
The idea consisted of 50 participants who were given an unexpected ‘shot’ at being an artist, with the opportunity of going home with a self-made piece of art instead of a bought one. This reinforces the idea that art should surprise and inspire you to do and feel things you normally wouldn‘t, and that art is there to be enjoyed most importantly.
After the art fair, I personally selected one of the artworks as a winner without knowledge of who made it. He or she wins an original Call Me Frank. This implies that the typical roles will have switched: the viewer (critic) has now become the artist who’s work will be critiqued.
