In this series Call Me Frank created 7 unique interpretations of old and modern heraldries inspired by the 7 deadly sins. Wrath, Greed, Sloth, Pride, Lust, Envy and Gluttony, each is a form of idolatry-of self wherein the subjective reigns over the objective. As a spoof on the old Heraldry art he creates contemporary heraldries based on the norms and values of people today. Nowaday’s people want it all without putting in the work, they are greedy and lustful beyond what they need (gluttony), while being to proud and lazy (sloth) to work for it, and they hate (wrath) as well as envy other people for having what they want.
The Heraldries are made by using hand mirror-polished stainless steel layered on top of one another. The reflective nature of the polished steel makes it possible for the viewer to both look at the piece as well as themselves. This way the viewer can reflect upon themsleves as they interact with the subject. Call Me Frank states that nowadays people seem to be proud to live a life of sins, these heraldries are not to make people more greedy or lustfull, but to help change once point of view and help acknowledge the bad habits. The inspiration and details used in making this exhibtion are based on “Divina Comedia” or The Divine Comedy. A poem written by Dante Alighieri between C. 1308 and his death in 1321.
